PLEDGE PROCEDURES:
PASSENGERS To qualify for AirTran U, you must be 18 to 22 years old. (Once
you've reached your 23rd birthday, you are no longer eligible.) You are allowed
to carry an infant under two years of age in your arms at no additional charge.
PICK Any of the many continental U.S. cities served by AirTran Airways. View our destinations in our interactive route map.
PACK As an AirTran U standby passenger, you are permitted one carry-on item
and one personal item. A personal item may be a handbag, umbrella, cane,
crutches, coat, camera, reading material, infant food, briefcase, or laptop
computer. No carry-on item may exceed overall dimensions of 55 inches, and all items must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin. Any heavy item must
be placed underneath your seat. Per TSA's recent guidelines, travelers can now
bring liquids, gels and aerosols into their carry-on luggage. The items must be
stored in containers no larger than 3-ounces and must be housed in a single,
quart-sized zip-top, clear plastic bag.
PROCEED To get on the AirTran U standby list, you must arrive at the ticket
counter at least two hours before scheduled departure of the flight. You will be
asked to show a valid, government issued photo ID to verify age requirements.
The boarding process begins promptly 30 minutes prior to departure, so make
sure you are in the gate area to listen for your name to be called. No exceptions.
PAY Upon arrival at the ticket counter, you will be asked for $69* per segment
($99* for long-haul segments). You may pay by either credit card or cash. AirTran
U standby fares are per segment and Airport Passenger Facility Charges of up
to $4.50 per segment may apply. In addition, per-segment taxes of $3.50 and
September 11th security fee of up to $2.50 are not included. A segment is
defined as one takeoff and one landing.
PATIENCE Once you have checked in for your flight at the ticket counter, please proceed to the gate and wait patiently. If the flight fills up, try another flight. Please do not disturb the gate agents as they work. If you checked in at the
ticket counter, then they know that you are waiting to get on the flight. Please
do not crowd the gate podium. Please be nice to the gate agents. Gate agents
have the right to refuse boarding.
POLITICS This is a standby program for coach class only. You do not have a
confirmed seat, and no reservations can be made for the program if you have a
reservation on any AirTran Airways flight on the same day. Standby passengers
are not eligible for denied boarding compensation. Every stop is considered a
new segment for which you must be cleared. A segment is defined as one takeoff and one landing. If your trip requires a connection, you must pay for all segments at the ticket counter in the origination city for one-way and connecting travel. Flights to/from San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Seattle, or Denver are considered long-haul segments, and cost $99* per segment.
